FolderSizes FAQ

Frequently asked questions about our FolderSizes disk space management software.

1. Product Registration

1.1. I've lost my registration details

We're happy to help you locate your product registration / license details.

In November of 2007, we switched order processing partners from eSellerate to Plimus. Both provide after-sale customer support systems that will allow you to retrieve your order information, along with the associated license data (e.g. product registration data). Which one you use depends upon when you placed your order.

If you placed your order online prior to November 27th of 2007, then please visit the eSellerate purchase support system:

http://store.esellerate.net/store/support/

If you placed your order online after November 27th of 2007, then please visit the Plimus purchase support system:

http://www.plimus.com/escalate_shopper_issue.jsp

Note that you'll need an order reference number to use the Plimus page referenced above. If you don't have your Plimus order reference number, you can find it here:

http://www.plimus.com/find_shopper_order.jsp

Finally, if you didn't purchase online through either of these systems, please email us and we'll help you investigate further.

Thanks for using Key Metric Software products!

1.2. My registration details aren't working

The most common cause of this problem is that you're trying to register an installed version of FolderSizes that's different from the one you actually purchased.

For example - if you purchased the new FolderSizes version 4.0 release, the product registration details you receive will only be valid for version 4.0 (the serial name / number will not work with version 3.x). In this case, you'll need to download and install FolderSizes version 4.0, which you can then "unlock" with your serial name / number.

If you purchased FolderSizes 3.x, your existing product registration details will not work with the new v4.0 release. You have two choices:

  • Download and install FolderSizes v3.x, which will accept your registration details
  • Upgrade to FolderSizes version 4.0 (special upgrade pricing is available)

Finally, we always recommend that you use the Windows clipboard to copy and paste your product registration information into the software. The serial name / number combination are mathematically linked, and they must be entered exactly as they are given to you.

2. Licensing

2.1. How is FolderSizes licensed?

A single-user FolderSizes license can be used by a single individual on a single computer.

If FolderSizes is to be used by more than one person, or installed on multiple computers, you will need separate licenses for each user / installation combination.

Note that no special licensing is required for a single FolderSizes installation to scan remote computers over a network connection.

If you need multiple FolderSizes licenses, we offer special volume discounts through our secure online ordering system. We also sell a special site-wide license that allows for unlimited use of FolderSizes within a single organizational site - please contact our sales team for details.

2.2. Are FolderSizes licenses transferable?

No. FolderSizes single-user product licenses (activated through a serial name / number combination) cannot be transfered to another user (or owner).

A separate FolderSizes license is required for each user / installation combination.

There is one exception. If you own a FolderSizes site license (contact product sales for information), the resulting serial name / number combination can be applied to multiple users / installations within a single organizational site.

2.3. Can I upgrade to FolderSizes 4.0?

Yes, we offer special upgrade pricing for users wishing to upgrade to FolderSizes v4.0 from any previous version.

In order to upgrade an existing FolderSizes product license, you must have the serial name / number you were issued when you originally purchased.

Please see the ordering section of our product website for details.

2.4. How does site licensing work?

Our FolderSizes site licenses allow for unlimited use of the software within a single physical site - defined as a building or cluster of buildings in close physical proximity to one another.

Unlike our single-user licenses, site licenses are not bound to a single user. They can be installed on multiple computers and used by as many individuals you see fit, as long as the software stays within the site for which it was purchased.

If you need broader deployment capability than what is offered by a site license, please consider purchasing multiple site licenses (one for each location), or contact us via email - we offer a broad array of global and custom licensing options.
